November 22, 2006: NK Education Foundation Awards Eleven Mini-grants Totaling $3,781. NKEF has awarded the following mini-grants to teachers and staff. Twenty-three applications were received and evaluated by a committee representing NKEF and the community.

November19, 2006: NK Education Foundation announces the availability of Drivers Education Course scholarships from the Kyle Sizemore Memorial Fund for students who cannot otherwise afford to take a course. Applications will be available from the North Kitsap High School Counselors' Office and this website starting on January 1, 2007.
August 28, 2006: NK Education Foundation Board postpones "Master Minds" Trivia Bee. Following a thorough evaluation of preparations for the planned October event, the Board determined that not enough time remains to guarantee the presentation of a quality program. The Board committed to review preparations to date and develop a work plan that will allow NKEF to present a successful event in October of 2007. Start talking to your friends now about forming a team for the 2007 event.
August 17, 2006: Teacher and Staff Mini-grants Available. NK Education Foundation is once again offering teachers and staff of North Kitsap public schools mini-grants for innovative and creative programs. The total amount offered this year is $4,000. It is anticipated that grants will average $300. Click here for more details.
August 17, 2006: NK Education Foundation will hold it's first major fundraising event on October 21, 2006, at Kiana Lodge. The "Master Minds" Trivia Bee will feature a salmon dinner followed by a trivia contest featuring teams sponsored by local businesses, individuals, clubs, and school groups. June 1, 2006: North Kitsap Education Foundation Announces Scholarship awards for 2006
North Kitsap Education Foundation has added two new scholarship programs and made the initial awards at the North Kitsap High School Scholarship and Award Night on June 1. The North Kitsap Alumni Scholarship was funded by the first annual alumni golf tournament held last summer. The North Kitsap School Administrators Association Scholarship is funded by North Kitsap School Administrators Association member donations.

1960 NK alum Roger Bird, from Gig Harbor, presented scholarships to the following students at the June 1st awards ceremony.
Evan Egerer has has taken a challenging senior class load including three (3) Advanced Placement classes as well as Anatomy/Physiology. Evan’s desire is to study medicine.
Jayson Stemmler Jayson would like to study both engineering and Japanese. In addition to a challenging senior class load, he has received numerous awards and recognition for school and outside activities.
North Kitsap School Administrators Association Scholarship
Mayra Ramirez Mayra entered NKHS as a sophomore from Mexico. When she arrived from Mexico she spoke very little English, but has taken an impressive class load. Her dream is to be a pediatrician and utilize her bi-lingual skills.

Don Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Laura Simpson Laura is planning to attend either Clark Community College or Tacoma Community College to study to become a paramedic.
James T. and Emily S. Johnson Scholarship
NK Education Foundation administers these generous scholarships for the Johnsons. This years’ three recipients are:
Brian Parrott is a National Merit Scholar. He plans to study biomedical engineering, with an emphasis on prosthetics. Brian was offered entrance at M.I.T. but after much soul-searching he chose the U.W. because he can begin research in his area of interest this summer.
Ava Heston has an impressive GPA, which she has earned while working 30 hours a week at Target and supported herself in her own apartment in Bremerton.
Ella Sanman is finishing her freshman year of college at Santa Clara University.
May 7, 2006: Jessie Eadie Awarded Alice Wood Memorial Scholarship
Jessica Eadie has been selected to receive the 2006 Alice Wood Memorial Scholarship. The North Kitsap Girls Basketball program established the scholarship in 2004 to honor Alice Wood and carry on her spirit in the program. The scholarship is given annually. Players are nominated by their teammates for the following attributes: Leadership, Unselfishness, Team Player, Work Ethic, and Friendship.
February 8, 2006 - NK School district operating levy passes
The citizens of North Kitsap have once more shown their support for our public schools with 68% voting in favor of the 4-year operations and maintenance levy renewal.
January 10, 2006 - NK School District Operating Levy Up for Renewal Vote February 7
In keeping with our mission NKEF wholeheartedly supports passage of this levy. This four-year levy supports North Kitsap School District educational programs, maintenance, facility and equipment replacement, athletics and activities that are not adequately funded by the State of Washington. The estimated annual cost is $2.15 per $1,000 of assessed property value (a reduction from the $2.82 per $1,000 in the previous levy). This renewal levy provides approximately 19% of the district's total budget.
